Samuel Sylvester Alger Sr., 78, of Luray, died on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, at Skyview Springs Nursing and Rehab.
He was born on June 19, 1941, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Claude Sylvester Alger and Mary Margaret Stroop Alger.
Mr. Alger was a member of the Antioch Independent Bible Church in Luray.
He is survived by two sons, Samuel Sylvester Alger Jr. of Stanley, and Terry Alger of Woodstock; two sisters, Betty J. Catron and Dorothy Weaver of Luray; two brothers, Everett R. Alger of Luray, and Nolan D. Alger of Mount Crawford; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Earl Alger; three brothers, Carson Lee, Claude David and Clarence Donald Alger; and a sister, Anna L. Cubbage.
A funeral service was conducted on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Pastor Frank Painter.
