John Paul Painter

John Paul Painter Jr., 81, of Luray, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Life Care Center of New Market. 

He was born on September 25, 1942, in Luray and was a son of the late John Paul Painter and Nina Pearl Smith Painter. 

John worked as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad for over 30 years. 

Surviving in addition to his wife, Judith Gayal Hilliard Painter, are two sons, Todd Painter of Luray, and Joe Painter and wife Lisa of Harrisonburg; a daughter, Carla Armstrong and husband Jeremy of Richmond; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Benton Painter.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, at the Graves Chapel Cemetery in Stanley by Pastor Charles Turner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department, the Luray Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Page County SPCA, P.O. Box 62, Luray, VA 22835.
