James Bernard Bolen

James Bernard Bolen, 87, of Luray, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on Aug. 14, 1935, in Luray and was a son of the late John B. Bolen and Ruth Racer Bolen.

James was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He served as regional general manager of the State Parks of Alabama and assistant general manager at ARA. He also owned part of the Skyline Caverns in Front Royal. 

On Aug. 27, 1955, he married Janet R. Good Bolen, who died on Dec. 10, 1997.

He is survived by a son, James Brooks Bolen of Luray; a daughter, Sherri Bolen Lapp and husband Mike of Winchester; and a grandson, Michael Lapp II of Charlottesville. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary V. Burner, Beulah M. Bolen, Nina Cornwell and Ruth Kelly; and two brothers, John “Bill” Bolen and Marion “Tucker” Bolen. 

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, at the Beahm’s Chapel Cemetery in Luray by the Rev. Charles J. Comer.
