Duane Layman Obituary

Duane Eugene Layman, 72, of Stanley, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Winchester Medical Center.

He was born on February 14, 1952, in Harrisonburg and was a son of the late Carl Layman and Leona Whitmer Layman.

Duane was a veteran of the United States Navy. He had worked as a police officer for the City of Harrisonburg for 15 years.

Duane was a dedicated life member of the Stanley Volunteer Rescue Squad, having served as captain, lieutenant and board member. He was also a member of the Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Stanley Town Council.

On April 5, 2004, he married Katinna Sue Hull Layman, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Brandon Layman and wife Tara of Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Donna Jenkins and husband Mark of Winchester, Tina Kibler and husband Stacy of Luray, and Barbara Miller of Stanley; a brother, Bill Layman and wife Joan of Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 12, at the Bradley Funeral Home by Evangelist Doug Gochenour. Burial will be in the Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 11, at the funeral home.
