Dr. Douglas Scott Holmes, 1935-2023
A 1957 graduate of Dartmouth College, Doug earned his MS and PhD at the University of Wisconsin. After working as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice and for VA Hospitals, as well as working in Organizational Psychology for US Army Research Institute, Doug became one of the first full-time residents of South Fork Ranches in Page County over 40 years ago. The mountainous landscape, Shenandoah River, and wildlife were part of what he called his Sanctuary. With his Airedale Daisy Mae by his side, he especially loved creating butterfly gardens, bird safe havens and comfortable habitat for deer. The family is deeply grateful for loving neighbors and friends who helped him live all his days as he desired. Preceding him in death was his son David Scott Holmes (1962-85). Doug is survived by his wife Linda Leigh Holmes, stepson Shawn Troy and stepdaughter Cynthia Smith of NC; his daughter Linda May Holmes of CA; daughter Jill Viselli & husband Joey of FL; grandson Joseph Viselli of IN and granddaughter Jenevieve Viselli of AL.
