Anne Heller Obituary

Anne Moore Heller of Sandy Springs, South Carolina, died at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville, VA, on Monday, December 20.  She was born Ritta Anne Moore in Clemson, SC, on September 5, 1927, and was the daughter of the late W.K. and Annie Laura Moore.  She was married for 58 years to her beloved husband, James Malcolm Heller, who preceded her in death.

Anne retired after 38 years with the Postal Service, twenty as Postmaster of the Sandy Springs Post Office.  She was much loved and appreciated by the community she served.  Anne was raised in the Sandy Springs Methodist Church, and joined the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church after marrying Malcolm in 1943.  She served the church in many roles, including Sunday School teacher, first woman deacon, longtime Presbyterian Women treasurer, and was named Mt. Zion’s first Senior Superlative Award recipient from the Presbytery.  She led the Happy Years Club at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, and the Heart & Hands group at Mt. Zion.  Anne worked for many years with the Sandy Springs Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, with the Sandy Springs Community Park, and was treasurer for the Sandy Springs Methodist Church Cemetery Association.  She faithfully collected Stamps for Mission, and worked with the Anderson Emergency Soup Kitchen, as well as the Anderson Interfaith Ministries and Clean Start.  In addition, she sent out thousands of greeting cards to friends and family, and freely shared her flowers and flower-arranging skills.

Anne was devoted to her precious family, and they to her.  She is survived by a son, James M. Heller, Jr., and his wife Tricia of Tucson, AZ; daughter Pat Johnson and her husband Don of Mt. Home, NC; daughter Cathy Whittle and her husband Bill of Luray, VA; grandchildren Ben Johnson, Matthew Whittle (Rebecca), and Laura Anne Whittle Stratton (J.R.); great-grandchildren Devin Johnson, Liam and Locklan Whittle, and Annabelle and Elizabeth Stratton; and a sister, Jean Broadwell, of Shreveport, LA.  She was preceded in death by a brother, William Moore.

Anne’s family is grateful to everyone at Hidden Springs Senior Living for how well they cared for her and how much they cared about her.
