Anna Jeannette Burner Griffith, 94, of Luray, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2019, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Luray on October 20, 1925, and was a daughter of the late Leslie and Julia Burner of Egypt Bend.
On March 6, 1946, she married Lewis Griffith, who passed away in 1987.
Anna grew up in Egypt Bend and graduated from Luray High School. She was a supervisor at Wrangler of Luray for 28 years and a charter member of the Luray VFW Auxiliary since 1947. She was an active member of the Luray Church of the Brethren, where she was anointed when she was diagnosed with cancer.
Anna learned to drive a car when she was 62 years of age. Lewis was diagnosed with terminal cancer and asked if she would learn to drive and get a permit. So, she did. “If you will remember the good things of my life, then the Lord will take care of the faults. How I know this? Because he lives, and the Bible tells us so.” Her favorite chapter in the Bible was 1 Corinthians 13. Her favorite word in the Bible was Love. “If we live by that commandment, all others will follow.” She liked a message from Billy Graham that reminds that we are not leaving when we die. We are just changing our address.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Barbara Estep and husband Jim of Fairfax, and Linda Griffith of Luray, who was her caregiver and with whom she lived; a brother, Maurice C. Burner and wife Patsy of Luray. She leaves two grandchildren, Joshua Martin of Fairfax, and Chad Martin and wife Yuri of Hawaii. She leaves five great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Leslie Burner Jr. of Luray, Dorothy Evelyn Marston of Luray, and Esta Mae Grimsley of Luray; and her half brothers and half sisters, Raynard Burner of Luray, Malcolm Burner of Luray, and Mildred Burner of Luray.
The family would like to express our heartfelt thank you to Dr. Dinh at Page Health Care Associates, staff at Sentara RMH Hahn Cancer Center and staff at First Choice Hospice.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 29, at the Luray Church of the Brethren by Pastor Leah Hileman. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of choice.
