William Hanson Menefee Sr. Obituary

William Hanson Menefee Sr., 92, of Luray, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Page Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 7, 1934, in Page County and was a son of the late Franklin Thomas Menefee and Fannie Louise Bailey Menefee.

Hanson graduated from Luray High School in 1952 and was a member of the Luray Christian Church. Hanson was a self-employed master carpenter.

He is survived by two daughters, Debora Menefee and fiancé Mike Parr of Luray, and Mary Lou Nipe and husband Jim of Bridgewater; a son, William Hanson Menefee Jr. and wife Kathy of Luray and Gloucester; five grandchildren, Lindsay Stroupe and fiancé Allen Eye of Harrisonburg, Daniel Batman of Bridgewater, Bryan Menefee of Gloucester, Christian Nipe of Bridgewater, and Hannah Kaitlyn Menefee of Christiansburg; three great-grandchildren, Brooks, Brennan and Beckett Batman of Bridgewater; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Geneva Steed, Virginia Lentz, Mary Cullers, Naomi Craddock, Harriet Showalter, Fay Keenan and Jeanette Cummins; and four brothers, Garland Menefee, Thomas Wood Menefee Sr., Charles Joseph Menefee Sr. and Bobby Lee Menefee.

Hanson is also survived by his life partner, Bonnie Lucas; her children, Lisa Roadcap and husband Neil, Patti Buracker and husband Frankie, and Leslie Rogers; her grandchildren, Corey Hanner Sr., Raleigh Rogers III and fiancée Brianna Sine, and Taylor Rogers; and her great-grandchildren, Myles Rogers, Brinleigh Cook and Corey Hanner Jr. One grandchild, Eric Hanner, is deceased.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at the Luray Christian Church by Pastor Carmen Fennessee, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 12-1 p.m. Burial will be in the Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Christian Church, to the Luray Volunteer Rescue Squad or to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department.
