William (Bill) Page Menefee, Colonel (retired) U.S. Army, 90, passed away on August 7, 2025, at his home in Luray, Virginia.
Bill was born in Luray on March 22, 1935, to the late Marvin James “Peachy” Menefee and Anne Hudson Menefee, the fifth of five children. In 1962, he married Frances Amiss, who passed away in 2023.
He graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Virginia Military Institute in 1956 with a B.A. in Biology and earned a Master of Business Administration degree in Industrial Management from Babson College in 1964. In 1956, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and began his 28 years of military service, the majority serving as an Ordnance Officer on missions all over the country and world, including tours in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, and the Pentagon. He retired in 1984 and returned home to Luray. His post-service career included work as a contractor with the Department of Defense, Director for Economic Development for Page County, and serving on the Luray Town Council (Vice Mayor), as well as leadership/membership on many community and church organizations.
Bill was devoted to his family, community, and country and served them all to the fullest. This does not begin to describe the life and impact of this husband, father, and friend.
He is survived by daughters Mary Menefee of Luray and Alice Paolone (Louis) of Fairfax Station, Virginia, sister Emily Johnston of Richmond, VA, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were like family. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy, and sisters Janet (Freeman) and Mary Ann (Byerly).
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the many people who supported him during these past few years, including Anitra Vaughn, Chris Smoot, Stephanie Purdie, BJ Campbell, and Susan and John Aleshire.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Rileyville Baptist Church (7044 US 340, Rileyville, Virginia), with a reception to follow at the church. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at the Menefee home (10 Jamison Road, Luray).
