Thomas "Tom" Ansel Mitchell, 73, of Luray, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center.
He was born on September 27, 1952, in Niagara Falls, NY, and was a son of the late Ansel Thomas Mitchell and Edith Carmella Cirrito Mitchell.
Tom was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the New York National Guard. He also worked for Shenandoah National Park as a seasonal employee for 7 years before joining the Page County Sheriff's Office as a deputy for 16 years. He was a member of the Morning Star Lutheran Church in Luray.
Tom's favorite pastime was watching his beloved Buffalo Bills with family every football season -- GO BILLS!!
On September 20, 1980, he married Bernita J. "Jeanie" Griffith Mitchell, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by three daughters, Laura J. Sours of Luray, Stacy M. Gregory and husband Aaron of Luray, and Christy Smith of Mebane, NC; a son, Thomas C. Mitchell and wife Hannah of Bracey, VA; a sister, Elaine Russell and husband John of Lewiston, NY; 11 grandchildren, Amber Sours, Morgan Sours, Warren Supthin, Hunter Smith, Emma Sours, Erin Sours, Mya McLeod, Elenora Gregory, Elliott Salus, Hattie Gregory and Ranger Gregory; 1 great-grandchild, Lydia; two nephews, Jay Russell of Lewiston, NY, and Calvin George of Gretna, VA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda George.
Services are planned for a later date.
