Shelby Jean Kent Holdaway, 82, of Luray, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, at Life Care Center of New Market.
She was born on Oct. 11, 1937, in Waterford and was a daughter of the late William Harrison Kent and Bertha Ellen Cole Kent.
On May 3, 1974, she married Colonel George Holdaway, who survives.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Michael John Ball and wife Jennifer, and Kevin Leslie Ball and wife Lucille, all of Warrenton, and Gregory Harrison Ball and husband Kirke Smith of Washington, D.C.; two stepsons, Timothy George Holdaway and wife Becky of Ashburn, and Anthony Daryl Holdaway of Gainesville; two stepdaughters, Penny Elizabeth Valley and Virginia Ann Craun, both of Ashburn; a sister, Marge Croson of Waynesboro; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Bertha Turner, Lucille Virginia Fields, Katherine Irene Cullen and Frances Ellen Hardy; one brother, Walter Clifford Kent and a Grandson Ryan F. Holdaway.
A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
