Roy Junior Hilliards, 77, of Shenandoah, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
He was born on January 31, 1948, in Stanley and was a son of the late Roy Plumb and the late Maudie Elizabeth Hilliards Tappy and Ralph Tappy Sr.
Roy was a veteran of the United States Army and retired as a supervisor from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), with 25 years of service.
On August 3, 1977, he married Cynthia Comer Hilliards, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by three daughters, Stacy Tinnell of Broadway, Tara Painter and husband Trent of Stanley, and Amy Beth Hilliards and companion Kevin Dinges of Shenandoah; a son, Anthony C. Hilliards of Harrisonburg; a sister, Dorothy "Dottie" Smith of Shenandoah; seven grandchildren, Nate Tinnell, Hannah Tinnell, Lindsay Paxton, Ryan Painter and wife Annie, Sarah McDonough and husband T.J., Ethan Dinges and Allie Dinges; one great-grandchild, Hudson McDonough; two nieces, Lisa Ann Turner and Julie Seal, both of Shenandoah; his mother-in-law, Joyce Comer of Stanley; and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Comer of Luray. He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Scott Williams; a sister, June Elizabeth Hilliards; his father-in-law, James D. Comer; and a brother-in-law, Bill Smith.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, at the Calvary Independent Brethren Church in Stanley by Pastor Charlie Turner, Pastor Randy Miller and Pastor Chris Cubbage.
