Robert Daniel Miller Jr., 81, of Luray, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Born on October 31, 1944, he was the son of the late Robert Daniel Miller and Dorothy Louise Price Miller.
A United States Marine Corps veteran known to most as Dan and many as “Captain Dan,” he lived a life marked by deep love for his family, enduring friendships, and a lifelong passion for aviation.
Dan was a loving and proud father to his two sons, Lindsay Miller of Washington, D.C., and Ryan Miller of Wilmington, N.C. He was also a devoted friend and companion to his wife, Gayle Miller of Atlanta, GA.
Dan valued loyalty, conversation, and time spent with the people he cared about. He was known for his dry wit, modest charm, and finding humor in embarrassing his children. "We got you back, Dad" - Lindsay and Ryan.
An aviator at heart, Dan never missed a chance to talk about flying and described himself as a “pretty good” aviator. Those around him knew that aviation was more than just a skill he honed as a Marine Corps helicopter pilot, it was a defining part of who he was.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Cynthia Comer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, at Culpeper National Cemetery.
Dan would appreciate donations to Wreaths Across America and requested those who loved him volunteer to place wreaths for others in his memory.
