Nathaniel Perkins Obituary

Nathaniel Thomas Perkins, 79, of New Market, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Timberview Crossing Assisted Living in Timberville.

He was born on January 4, 1947, in McVeigh, KY, and was a son of the late Cecil Perkins and Creole Cunningham Perkins.

Nathaniel was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Perkins Concrete Construction and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, based in Charlottesville.

Nathaniel was a pastor, serving his first church in 1980, and retiring in 2012.

On April 28, 1972, he married the former Carol J. Durrett, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Nathaniel is survived by two sons, Nathaniel Perkins Jr. and Duane Perkins, both of Waynesboro; two brothers, William F. Perkins of Queens, NY, and James Perkins (Linda) of Detroit, MI; four sisters, Prestine Warren of Williamston, WV, Edith Farrar and Syntonia Gage, both of Richmond, and LaVella Joplin of Illinois; seven grandchildren, Marquis Jones, Micah Perkins, Nigel Stewart, Jayden Walker, J'Khyri Perkins, Tre' White and Devon Perkins; one great-granddaughter, Amira Perkins; adopted son, Ceaser Perkins (Julie); his mother-in-law, Juanita Durrett; a sister-in-law, Teresa Hunter; a brother-in-law, Harry Durrett; niece, Joanne Thompson; great niece, Caitlin Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Preston Perkins, Michael Perkins and Cecil Perkins Jr.; and two sisters, Eula Mayo and Saundra Perkins.

A funeral service is scheduled for 12 noon on Thursday, July 9, at the Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market, with family visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Those planning to attend may dress casual.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry at Manor Memorial UMC, or to Disabled Veterans.
