Margaret Ann Such was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 13, 1929, the
daughter of John (Traian) and Jannie (Jovanka) Such (Suciu). When she
was two years old, she returned to Romania with her mother and oneyear-
old brother, George. She grew up in Nādlac, Romania and went to
school in Timisoara. Margaret and her immediate family survived the
German Axis Alliance and Allied bombing of Romania during World War II
and the subsequent Russian invasion of the country in 1944. At 18 years
old, she and her brother, George, fled Romania on U.S. Merchant Marine
ships and returned to the United States as the communists took over the
country. They were able to leave because they were American citizens.
Unfortunately, her mom, dad, and three sisters, who were Romanian
citizens, were forced to stay until 1964. She lived with her dad’s sister,
Teresa, and her uncle, Christopher Baloi in Cleveland, Ohio. She met her
husband, Peter Sabau, Jr, and they were married in 1950. They were
married for sixty-six years until Peter went to be with the Lord on
November 25, 2016. Together, they were co-owners of Sabau Chevrolet
Buick in Luray, Virginia and in business for 36 years with son, Peter Sabau
III, and his wife Melissa. Margaret is survived by her three sisters, Lydia
(Stephan Stochitoiu-husband), Cornelia Masgras and Zorica (Gerald
Bubnick-husband); children, Peter (wife-Melissa), Aurica (husband-Casey
Green), and Joan (husband-Lee Turner). Margaret has four grandchildren,
Miles Green (wife-Kathryn), Jessica (husband-Matthew Nicholas), Sarah
and Peter Zachary Sabau (wife-Chelsea). In addition, she has three great
grandchildren, Georgie Green and Zorica and Olena Nicholas. Margaret is
a member of Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church and prior to that a
member of the Apostolic Christian Church. She was a gifted floral artist
and gardener, being a member of the Luray Garden Club, and a member
of the Gideon’s Ladies’ Auxiliary. She was also a “Rotary Ann” when Peter
her husband served as District Governor of the Rotarians. Margaret was a
devout Christian who loved the Lord and was the matriarch of her family.
She was an excellent cook and felt that was her calling. She provided
many delicious meals to everyone she knew. She will always be an
inspiration and light to her family and friends. Margaret leaves a legacy of
faith in God and has passed the baton of faith to the next generation.
