Linda Gay (Jenkins) Dwyer

Linda Gay Jenkins Dwyer, 72, of Sperryville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 21 at Inova Fairfax Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on July 8, 1949 to the late Aubrey Robinson Jenkins and Ellen Baker Jenkins.

Ms. Dwyer was known for her kindness, hard-working nature, humor, infectious laugh, and caring for those around her more than she cared for herself. Above all things, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. It was not uncommon to walk into her home and find her on the phone with, or visiting with, a loved one. She especially treasured time with her children and grandchildren, and was often found making them a meal to share with her.

She is survived by her four children, Richard Dwyer Jr. of Sperryville, Cynthia Dwyer-Seay and husband Matthew of Fork Union, Tammy Atkins and husband Neal of Sperryville, and Todd Green and wife Kim of Marshall. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Brittany Dwyer, Ryan Atkins, Aubrie Seay, Owen Seay, Kayla Ferrell and husband Coy, and Morgan Clemmer and husband Ben. She also had six great-grandchildren: Ella, Noah, Levi, Violet, Lucy and Beatrice.

Additional survivors include three siblings, Kathleen Lee and Ivy Racer, both of Front Royal and Troy Jenkins and wife Betty of Luray. She also has many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins and extended family that she loved dearly.

Ms. Dwyer was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Melvin Dwyer, Sr., her parents, and six siblings: Nelson Jenkins, Edna Burke, Jimmy Jenkins, Abbie Jenkins, David Jenkins, and Wayne Jenkins.

The family will hold a graveside service on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Sperryville Cemetery at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Dwyer’s name to the Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 178, Sperryville, VA 22740. The family is grateful to all the volunteer responders for taking such good care of Ms. Dwyer over many years.
