Larry "Huggy" Veney Obituary

Larry "Huggy" David Veney left this world February 20, 2025 with courage and at peace with God’s timing.

Larry was born June 16, 1954 to Evelyn and Charles "Chief" Veney. Larry grew up in New Market, Virginia - the town he called home. He enjoyed endless escapades with his brothers, friends, neighbors, many who maintained lifelong connections.

Larry graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School with the Class of 1973. He excelled in basketball, track, friendships, foolishness, and fun. Those who knew him appreciated his sense of humor, his “laid back” personality, generosity, and kind heart. He was a free spirit and made no apologies.

Larry joined R.R. Donnelley and Sons in 1980 and retired after 40 years of service. Larry enjoyed a good game of golf and a cold beverage! He was a member of the New Market Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Shenvalee Golf Resort.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Veney (Alice), Elizabeth Frye (Charles Jr.), Jerry Veney, Steve Veney (Deniece), Richard Veney (Edmintrest), Bill Veney (Kathy), and Smokey Veney (Virginia).

He is survived by his maternal uncle, Bobby Johnson (Judy); his sisters, Patsy Brown (Larmont), Diane Whitley, and Charlene Good (John); his brothers, Ronnie Veney (Victoria), Leonard Veney (JoLynn), and Tony Veney; his bonus niece and helper, Hayleigh Richards; and his good friend, Roger "Modge" Rinker.

Larry was a loved and loving uncle to a tribe of nieces and nephews and many, many, great nieces and nephews!

A private service is planned at the Veney Family Cemetery at a later date.

Friends and family are invited to a “Function” to celebrate Larry’s life, Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the New Market Eagles from 1pm to 5pm.

Larry would want you to know - "it's all good".
