Joseph St. Ours Obituary


Joseph Jean Claude St. Ours, 84, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
He was born on November 18, 1938, in Biddeford, Maine, and was a son of the late William St. Ours and Adele Trottier St. Ours. 
Major St. Ours served three tours of duty in Vietnam with the United States Marine Corps, retiring in 1985 with 30 years of service. During his military career, Joseph was a decorated Marine earning a Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal with 4 Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, Combat Action Ribbon and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. Additional honors included a Navy Commendation Medal with Valor (second award, Gold Star), Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Stars, Letter of Appreciation, Humanitarian Service Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal. He was a member of the Rileyville Baptist Church.
On April 29, 1978, he married Joan Gray Thompson St. Ours, who survives. 
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Ardean Joseph St. Ours of Oceanside, California, David Wayne Harper of Fredericksburg, and Albert Thomas Harper and wife Kim of Luray; a goddaughter, Susan Marie Cartier of Hollis Center, Maine; a nephew, Richard Cartier and wife Mary of Biddeford, Maine; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony St. Ours; a sister, Lorraine M. Cartier; and a brother, Robert G. St. Ours. 
A funeral service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, at the Rileyville Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Ellis, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 3-4 p.m. 
A graveside service will be held at 11Am on Monday, December 5, at Culpeper National Cemetery.
