Jonathan “Johnny” Wayne Courtney, 60, of Luray, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025.
He was born on May 8, 1965, in Luray and was the son of Shirley Garber Courtney of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the late Douglas Courtney of Luray.
On September 29, 1985, he married Brenda Ann Courtney (Daras), who survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Christi Lynn Smith, Jessi Courtney Sours and husband Jordan Sours, and son Justin Lee Courtney; a sister, Vickie Lynn Honiker of Florida; four grandchildren, Waylynn Sours, Rosalee Courtney, Wrenlynn Sours, and Waverlynn Sours; nieces Amber Kerr and husband Kevin Kerr, and Natalie Anderson; great nieces Madison Harmon, Chloe Harmon and Emmalynn Kerr; and great nephew Atlas Rodriguez. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Steven Courtney.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests monetary donations be made in Johnny’s honor to the Luray or Stanley Volunteer Fire Department and the Forward For Christ Baptist Church of Luray.
