John "Johnny" Lester Umberger

John “Johnny” Lester Umberger Age 70 of Shenandoah, VA passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Sentara R.M.H. Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.  He was born on September 11, 1949, in Smyth County, VA.  He was a graduate of Sugar Grove High School class of 1969.  He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972.  He was a member of Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church and VFW Comer Jones Post 621 both in Luray, VA.  On October 3, 1969 he married Martha Irvin who survives him.  He is also survived by Daughter-Crystal Umberger of Shenandoah, Va., Son-Chad Umberger and Wife Samantha of Shenandoah, Va., Brother-Jim Umberger of Rural Retreat, Va., Brother-Jack Umberger of Rural Retreat, VA., Sister-Earleene Hancock of Rural Retreat, VA., Sister-Bonnie Wood of Salem, Va., Granddaughter-Kara Atkins of Elkton, Va., Grandson-Kasper Lucas of Shenandoah, Va., Granddaughter-Taylor Umberger of Shenandoah, Va., Granddaughter-Carter Umberger of Shenandoah, Va., Granddaughter-Carmen Umberger of Shenandoah, Va., Grandson-Paxton Umberger of Shenandoah, Va. and Granddaughter-Taitelynn Umberger of Shenandoah, Va. He was preceded in Death by:Father-Earl Umberger and Mother-Virgie (Parks) Umberger.  Pastor Brian Hasse will conduct a Funeral Service at Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery, in Luray, VA with VFW Comer Jones Post 621 performing Military Honors.  Visitation will be at Mt. Carmel Regular Baptist Church on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Memorial Contributions can be made to VFW Comer Jones Post 621 or Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center in Charlottesville, VA.  Services performed under the direction of The Bradley Funeral Home, Inc.187 E. Main St. Luray, VA.
