Joan Cecile Painter, 89, of Luray, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
She was born on January 11, 1937, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Cecil R. Rogers and Verda L. Fox Rogers.
Joan had worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and at Luray High School. She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church and the Leaksville United Church of Christ.
On September 6, 1959, she married Gerald Painter, who survives.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by two daughters, Shannon Dean and husband Ryan "Beaver" Dean, and Shawn Painter and companion John Graves, all of Luray; a son, Chad Painter of Luray; five grandchildren, Christian Painter, Nathan Painter, Mary Snyder, Anna Falter and Maddie Quinlan; and eight great-grandchildren, Brantlee, Emmett, Walker, Noah, Leah, Eleanor, Raelynn and Claire. She was preceded in death by a son, Troy F. Painter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
