James Harold Alger, 72, of Luray, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
He was born on September 17, 1952, in Stanley and was a son of the late Patrick Henry Alger and Virginia Mae Campbell Alger.
On September 17, 1977, James married Brenda Shenk Alger, who survives.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by a daughter, Lindsey Hunsberger and husband Neil of Stanley; a son, Zachary Alger of Luray; three brothers, Randolph C. Alger, Earl Edward Alger and Fred Henry Alger, all of Stanley; four sisters, Cathy Sue Cardin, Mildred Comer, Shirley Marie Thomas and Deborah Faye Breeden, all of Stanley; and 10 grandchildren, Camden Boyd, Bethany, Peyton, Dawson, Darbi, Elladeigh, Brock, Baylor Hunsberger, Brayden McDonald Alger and Kinsley Alger. He was preceded in death by three brothers, C. Danny Alger, R. Dwight Alger and Jackie A. Alger; and three sisters, Carol Yvonne Burker, Doris E. Painter and Peggy Lam.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, at the Stanley New Hope Pentecostal Church by Pastor Randy Miller and Pastor Sam Seekford, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m.
