James Edwin Carter Jr., 54, of Luray, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He was born on June 16, 1966, in Page County; the first of nine children born to James Edwin Carter Sr. and Rosetta B. Carter.
James started serving in the U.S. Army immediately after high school. He traveled throughout Germany and was sent to war in Saudi Arabia (The Persian Gulf War). He was a soldier in charge using a 11m10 fighting vehicle (infantryman). He earned an Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, an Army Lapel Button, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars. He also recieved the Army Good Conduct Medal (first award), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, an Expert Grenade Badge and more.
He is survived by six sisters, Tina E. Carter, Penny M. Carter Good, Patrice M. Carter Perrier, Sabrina M. Sanders, Sharon P. Perrell and Amy Maria McLean; two brothers, Brian C. Carter and Shawn L. Carter; and four nephews, seven nieces and one great niece, as well as a host of cousins, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at the Bradley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, at the funeral home.
