James Remick Ashanky

James Remick Ashanky, 81, of Luray, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.

He was born on April 21, 1944, in Weeksville, NC, and was a son of the late Edward Andrew Ashanky and Jeanne Colby Ashanky.

James was an educator for Page County Public Schools, retiring with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church.

On February 14, 1988, he married Catherine Phillips Ashanky, who survives.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by a daughter, Jenaire LeTell Burnett of Northeast, MD; two stepchildren, Johanna Klein and husband Eli of McGaheysville, and Matthew Fox and wife Marina of Stephens City; a sister, Karen Preissner of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Lukas and Lily Klein, and Isabella and Stewart Fox. 

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, at the Luray United Methodist Church by the Rev. Erich Bennett.
