Hazel Ellen Matthews, 95, of Stanley, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Winchester Medical Center.

She was born on September 22, 1928, in Gloucester City, NJ, and was a daughter of the late Walton Knowles and Josephine Cushing Knowles.

Her husband of 72 years, Franklyn Benjamin Matthews Sr., preceded her in death.

Hazel is survived by two sons, Charles Edward Barrow Sr. and Dale Edward Matthews; five daughters, Sue Ellen Otten, Carol Lee Decker, Barbra Josephine Williamson, Hazel Ann Bray and Trudy Lynn McCart; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Franklyn Benjamin Matthews Jr.; three brothers, Maurice Knowles, Walton Knowles and Henry Knowles; and three sisters, Eunice Reed, Joan Cook and Patricia Aydelotte.

Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Park in Pennsauken, NJ.
