Edith Elonda Shifflett

Edith Elonda Shifflett, 80, of Stanley, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice.

She was born on May 11, 1944, in Harrisonburg and was a daughter of the late Clarence Shifflett and Myrtie Michaels Shifflett.

Edith had worked for ARA in the housekeeping department for 30 years.

Her husband, John Franklin McCoy, died on November 12, 2018.

She is survived by four daughters, Angela Spain, Vickie Moomaw and Betty Drain, all of Stanley, and Cynthia Bowen, of Coeburn; a son, Joseph McCoy of Stanley; six sisters, Betty Moyers, Leona Hensby, Lois Knott, Evelyn Herring, Rebecca Sloan and Debbie Winters; one brother, Charles Shifflett; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Thomas "Moose" Shifflett, Raymond "Cotton" Shifflett, Vernon Shifflett, Junior Shifflett and Claude Shifflett; and seven sisters, Louise Morris, Julia Beahm, Virginia Acosta, Ethel Morris, Peggy May, Connie Shifflett and Margie Clark.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 26, at the Stanley Seventh-day Adventist Church by Pastor Robert Banks, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in the Stanley Advent Cemetery.
