Edith Kathleen (Cubbage) Owens

Edith Kathleen Owens, 102, of Stanley, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Waynesboro Manor.

She was born on October 13, 1920, in Stanley and was a daughter of the late Ausby Goler Cubbage and Virginia Elizabeth Painter Cubbage.

Edith had worked as a clerk at Sanford's Clothing Store in Stanley for 25 years. She was a member of the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren in Stanley.

On October 31, 1938, she married Eldon Beecher Owens, who died on February 24, 2006.

She is survived by a daughter, Anne Fox of Lyndhurst; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Lee Owens; a daughter, Wanda Jean Dovel; two sisters, Katie Elizabeth Leggett and Mary Spivey; and one brother, Carl Cubbage.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 28, at the Leake’s Chapel Church of the Brethren by Pastor Charles Turner, with visitation one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Leake’s Chapel Cemetery.
