Durwood Comer Obituary

Durwood Comer, 92, of Rileyville, passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

He was born on September 9, 1932, in Shenandoah and was a son of the late Noah F. Comer and Victoria Grimsley Comer.

Durwood worked as a Supervisor in the Painting Department for Shenandoah National Park, retiring with 32 years of service. He was a member of the Page United Methodist Church.

On June 23, 1956, Durwood married Nora Belle Strickler Comer, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Durwood is survived by a son, Glenn Comer and wife Linda of Fishers, IN; a daughter, Terry Lynn Carothers of Flowery Branch, GA; six grandchildren, Jared Comer, Michael Carothers and wife Brittany, Matthew Carothers, Paul Carothers and wife Madison, Jessica Carothers and Conner Carothers; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Pat Carothers; nine brothers, Melvin, Gilbert, Clark, Elby, Wayman, Nelson, Merle, Edwin and Albert Comer; and four sisters, Frances Painter, Elva Huffman, Lorene Good and Dorothy Alger.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, May 2, at the Bradley Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at the Beahm's Chapel Cemetery in Luray by Pastor John Stelzl.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Page United Methodist Church.
