Obituary

Douglas Monroe Atwood, 91, formerly of Luray died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023 in Ellicott City,
Maryland.
Mr. Atwood was born in Luray on July 4, 1931, and was the son of the late Frederick and Bertha
(Huffman) Atwood.
He was a 1948 graduate of Luray High School and worked for many years as an electrician and
electrical contractor before retiring to farm fulltime.
He was a founding member of the Page County Farmers Association and a member of the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
In 1952, he married the former Martha Ann Williams, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Atwood, and her husband, Alexei Vinogradsky, of
Baltimore; a daughter-in-law, Annette Atwood of Luray; four grandsons, John Douglas Atwood
of Luray, William Atwood of Rileyville, Andrew Vinogradsky of Los Angeles, and Michael
Vinogradsky of Philadelphia; and a brother, Donnie Atwood of Luray. He also is survived by six
great-grandchildren.
A son, John Monroe Atwood, preceded him in death as did three sisters, Louise Gochenour, Eva
Strickler and Mary Burner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Bradley Funeral Home in Luray
followed by interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Luray Volunteer Fire Department, 1 Firehouse Lane,
Luray, Virginia, 22835.
