Dennis George Kohanek, 86, of Luray, died on Thursday, June 17, 2021.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1934, in Minneapolis, MN, and was a son of the late Leslie Frank Kohanek and Kathryn Brinster Kohanek of Crystal, MN.
Mr. Kohanek was a veteran of the United States Army as a Demolitions Expert, with a rifle sharpshooter commendation and a Good Conduct Medal.
On Oct. 27, 1956, he married Joyce Marlene Rocheleau Kohanek, who survives.
After discharge from the army, Dennis attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and ultimately graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1961.
Most recently he worked with his son at Komtel, and prior to that he was in engineering and sales at various companies in Minnesota, California, and Connecticut, and even had patents in his name.
Dennis was a member and former chairperson of the Page County Democratic Committee.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Lisa Pecunia of Richmond, VA, Vicki Kohanek of Toms River, NJ, and Stephen Kohanek of Saratoga Springs, NY. He is also survived by his brother, James Kohanek of Bethesda, MD; two sisters, Diane Kohanek and Mary Ann Steen both from Circle Pines, MN; as well as four grandchildren, Brian Davis of Flemington, NJ; Sebastian Pecunia of Greenwich, CT; Dean Kohanek and Ginger Kohanek of Wilton, NY; and one great-grandchild, Braxton Davis of Flemington, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leslie Kohanek Jr.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Post #22 in Luray, Virginia on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 am.
