David Robert Long

David Robert Long passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 26, 2021. Born April 18, 1957, David was the son of Robert and June Long of Luray, Virginia.

In 1986, David married Janet Leach of Front Royal, Virginia. David and Janet spent 34 years raising their three kids, Adam Updike, Samantha Long, and Katie Cooper, and later their one grandson, Joshua Updike. David was an active part of the Luray and Page County community and spent many years as a member of the Page Memorial Hospital Board, Valley Health Finance Committee, Stanley and Luray Masonic Lodges, Shriners Bluegrass and Voices for Children Fundraisers, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Many may remember David as the Mason that volunteered and led the local Child ID (VAChip) program at the Page Valley Fair, Heritage Festival, and other community events as a free service for local parents. David also loved working with his hands and left his mark as a builder of the Luray Imagination Station with Habitat for Humanity, in the work he did at friends and loved ones’ houses, and countless other areas.

David was an avid FFA member in high school who studied at Lord Fairfax Community College before transferring to Virginia Tech. During his younger years, David proudly ran with the Luray Rescue Squad. In 1986, David became a Financial Planner with IDS, which later became Ameriprise Financial Services. David loved being a personal financial advisor, because he loved helping people and connecting with his clients on a personal level.

David is survived by his wife, Janet Long; 3 kids, Adam Updike, Samantha Long, and Katie Cooper; grandson, Joshua Updike; sister, Teresa Pyne; brother, Alan Long, and each of his siblings’ families.
