David Deavers Jr Obituary

David Edward Deavers, 77 of Stanley VA, died tragically Saturday Nov. 19, 2022.  He was born October 20, 1945 at home in Naked Creek, VA.  Preceded in death by his wife Pam and infant son.  He is survived by siblings throughout the Shenandoah Valley: Gary, Chuck, Ginger, Rena, Bobbie and Penny as well as his son Joseph.  He kept in close touch with his Aunt Silvia and was a regular at he Kites Store in Newport.  David worked throughout the Valley with paving and rock, dairy farms, did carpeting and worked at Luray's Walmart.  Although a jack of all trades, he prided himself on his many years worked as an electrician.  Speedy, Candyman, Deadly Dave, The Sheriff and Mayor of the Holler are just some of his many nicknames of endearment.  He was known for his generosity, tall tales, Appalachian superstitions and his impeccable work ethic.  He was fond of traditional country and bluegrass music, he enjoyed hanging out with friends and lending a hand.  David seemed to have more than a cat's nine lives.  He boasted a history of beating death: run over by a tractor trailer, pronounced dead twice, shot, stabbed, run out of a burning trailer, nearly drowned and fell off many a roof... He will be greatly missed by vast numbers of friends and neighbors.  A gathering to honor his memory is being planned following Thanksgiving week to be announced by word of mouth.
