Bernice Lorraine (Griffith) Good

Bernice Lorraine Good, 91, of Luray, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, in Luray.

She was born on May 19, 1930, in Luray, Virginia, the second child of the late Lester V. and Kathleen E. Griffith.

Bernice graduated from Luray High School in 1948. She went to work at the Luray Textile and worked there for 13 years. On December 1, 1951, Bernice married Carlos G. “Bob” Good of Shenandoah, Virginia. In January 1962, Bernice gave birth to their daughter, Bonita.

Bernice worked at Fairview Grocery for 35 years. She enjoyed meeting customers and making sandwiches for them. She truly loved her Fairview family and all of the wonderful customers. Bernice was involved in many church activities at Morning Star Lutheran and was an active member of the Morning Star Women of the ELCA until her passing. She assisted with the Altar Guild for many years and taught Bible School.

Bernice was a member of Page Chapter No. 24 Order of the Eastern Star for 52 years. She and Carlos were faithful members of this organization and always said the Eastern Star members were a second family to them.

Carlos and Bernice enjoyed taking care of their grandsons as they were growing up, and always supported them in their many school activities. Bernice loved to care for her home, yard and garden. Nothing made her happier than taking care of the many flowers and shrubs around her home. She and Carlos were a good team, as they were both meticulous and thorough in their care and nurturing.

Carlos passed away on May 11, 2020. They were married 68 years.

Surviving Bernice is a daughter, Bonita Good Deavers, and her husband, Julian, of Luray; and two grandsons, Jordan Matthew Deavers and girlfriend Shelby Franklin of Luray, and Jacob Grant Deavers and wife Alisha of Luray. Also surviving are two very special sisters, Faye Good of Alexandria, and Sue Fox and her husband, Roger, of Luray; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by four brothers, Elwood, Charles, Dekime and Douglas Wainwright; and one sister, Charlene Griffith Painter.

Bernice loved her family so very much, always wanting to spend time with them and wishing for them happiness and love.

She is loved so much and will be greatly missed.

A funeral service was held on Friday, April 1, at Morning Star Lutheran Church, with burial in Morning Star Cemetery alongside her beloved husband, Carlos.
