Barbara Ann "Cry Baby " (Smith) Cubbage

Barbara Ann "Cry Baby" Cubbage, 80, of Stanley, gained her wings on Friday, September 15, 2023, after passing peacefully at her home.

She was born on May 30, 1943, in Luray and was a daughter of the late Lester Thomas Smith and Freda Virginia Price Smith.

On July 25, 1966, she married Wayne E. Cubbage, who died on March 12, 2004.

After 30 years, Barbara retired from the Alma Poultry Plant in Stanley. She was a regular attendee of the Church of the Valley in Shenandoah.

Barbara enjoyed numerous things including her daily visits from WeeWee, weekly visits from Barbie and John, Sandy and the girls, and the delicious meals from Tracy Cubbage, as well as her weekend excursions with Johnnie.

Outside of church, "Cry Baby" enjoyed gardening, canning, making Christmas treats, and attending yard sales.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie Owens (Rob) of Shenandoah, and Becky Roy (Junior) of Stanley; a brother, Earl William Smith (Sandy) of Luray; a granddaughter, Kelsey Owens (Ryan Spitler); numerous nieces and nephews; as well as her loving pets, Otis, Jack and Jake. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ella Mae "Susie" Short and Hazel Spitzer; and a brother, Raymond "Tom" Smith.

Barbara will be remembered as a humble woman with a loving smile. She never met a stranger and it didn't matter where she went someone was bound to know her.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, at the Bradley Funeral Home by the Rev. Alfred C. Comer Jr. and special friend David Duley. Burial will be in the Cubbage Family Cemetery in Stanley.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Cubbage, WeeWee Cubbage, Matthew Cubbage, JonJon Cubbage, Joseph "Chubbs" Cubbage and Ed Waters.
